Milton Keynes' Communities Acting Together for Change

Organisers

Profile: Mohamed Suleman, Associate Organiser

Born and bred in Milton Keynes, Mohamed has a unique
link with his home City and has a burning desire to ensure
that both Milton Keynes and the citizens who reside there
live up to their full potential.

After living in London and studying his Masters degree in
International Law he came back to Milton Keynes where he
went about establishing the Milton Keynes Muslim Association.
Since then the MKMA has grown from strength to strength and
is itself a Founding Member of Citizens:MK. At a similar time
Mohamed was working for a regional law firm. On qualifying as
a solicitor Mohamed spent two years in Damascus, learning
Arabic as well as about Syria’s culture and its people. It was
here in the cradle of civilisation that he truly began to reflect
upon the meaning of life and indeed the value of human life.

A changed person Mohamed devoted his time to helping his own community to increase their standard of living at a grassroots level. It was during this time he met Citizens:MK and was encouraged to attend the Citizens UK 5 day training course in London. This opened his eyes to the different concepts of community organising including using power for good and how that this can be achieved through bringing together different groups in a diverse broad based alliance.
As a leader from the MKMA Mohamed began to get more involved in organising including co-chairing the Founding Assembly and then chairing the first Strategy Team Meeting. He started formally as the Associate Organiser of Citizens:MK in March 2011.
